Alumni Pledge Cash Gifts, New Car for Bar Topnotchers

In an effort to inspire Silliman law students and faculty to “achieve as best they can in their legal studies”, three Silliman alumni pledged cash gifts and a brand new car to a Silliman Law graduate who will make it to the Bar Exam’s Top 10. This pledge was formally made on October 14, 2016.

Alanna Gayle Ashley B. Khio, Marie Chielo H. Ybio, and Andrew Stephen D. Liu clinched the 2nd, 9th, and 10th places, respectively, in the November 2016 Bar Examinations, which was released on May 3. They are entitled of the alumni’s pledged gifts.

Dr. Rolando V. del Carmen pledged the following:

1.) To any Silliman Law graduate who obtains First Place in the Bar Exam, he will give $5,000.
2.) To any Silliman Law graduate who obtains 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Place in the Bar Exam — $4,000.
3.) To any Silliman Law graduate who obtains 5th, 6th, and 7th Place in the Bar Exam — $3,000.
4.) To any Silliman Law graduate who obtains 8th, 9th, and 10th Place in the Bar Exam — $2,000.
5.) To any student who graduates with Honors from the College of Law — $1,000.
6.) This pledge will continue during his lifetime.

If a graduating class obtains a 100% passing rate, Dr. del Carmen will also donate $1,000 to the Law Faculty.

Atty. Francisco D. Yap and Atty. Whelma F. Siton-Yap also pledged that any Silliman Law graduate who places 4th or better in the Bar Exam will receive a brand new car from them. Atty. Yap ranked 4th in the 1966 Bar Examination.

This pledge will also continue during his lifetime.

Given the pledges of these Silliman alumni, Khio will receive $4,000 and a brand new car, while both Ybio and Liu will receive $2,000 each.
