Silliman Nursing alumnus to receive award from United Hospital Fund
Silliman University Nursing alumnus, Alfredo L. Alvarado, Jr., has been selected to receive United Hospital Fund’s (UHF) 2024 Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions at the Tribute to Excellence in Health Care, which will be held in New York City on May 6, 2024.
Alvarado is being recognized for his extraordinary leadership to improve quality of care, patient safety, and/or patient experience at Saint Barnabas Hospital (SBH) Health System.
Alvarado began his career at SBH in 1999 as an Assistant Director of Nursing. He rose through the ranks and now holds the title of Vice President-Operations at the SBH Health Systems in Bronx, NY.
In nominating Mr. Alvarado for the UHF 2024 award, SBH Senior Vice President Robert Church said, “Al is a humble leader who prefers the recognition and accolades be given to frontline staff, but today he is deserving of this recognition of his leadership and many accomplishments to improving care for all patients.”
Al, as he is fondly called by his close friends, is an active and generous member of the Silliman University Alumni Association of New York-New Jersey (SUAA NY-NJ).
Alvarado, who has roots in Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, was a recipient of a number of scholarships during his college days at the Silliman University College of Nursing. He was an Honor Scholar (1983-85) and a recipient of the Dr. Victor Rich Scholarship, the Rotary International Scholarship, the Clarence Butchby Scholarship, and the Fong Scholarship Grant (1984-88). He finished his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with honors in 1988.
