Alumni Update May 8 – 14, 2023

Dr. Marikit B. Parker

Silliman University (SU) alumna Dr. Marikit Baquiran Parker was named OLE Health medical director for Solano County, California, overseeing a team of 10 medical providers at two OLE Health locations in Fairfield. She assumed the post of medical director last April 9, 2023.

Parker began her career at OLE Health in 2020 as a family physician serving patients at the B. Gale Wilson Boulevard site.

In her new role, Parker will continue to provide direct patient care. “I am looking forward to stepping into this new role and leading the incredible team of providers at our Solano County sites,” Parker said.

OLE Health has two sites in Solano County, Chadbourne Road and B. Gale Wilson Boulevard, both in Fairfield, and is serving more than 10,000 patients annually.

“We are thrilled to be promoting Dr. Parker to Medical Director for Solano County,” said Alicia Hardy, OLE Health CEO, in a press release. “She’s been an incredible asset to OLE Health’s medical team in Fairfield, and I know she’ll be a tremendous leader as we continue to deepen our presence in Solano County.”

Parker earned her medical degree from SU Medical School in 2009 and completed her bachelor’s degree in medical technology also at SU in 2005. (With reports from the North Bay Business Journal)

Dr. Evangelyn C. Alocilja

Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee and scientist Dr. Evangelyn C. Alocilja was chosen as one of five Michigan State University honorees featured by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society. In 1874, the society started recognizing distinguished individuals as fellows for their contributions to science and society.

Alocilja, a Michigan State University professor in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Engineering, was selected as a fellow in engineering for outstanding contributions in biosystems engineering, biosensors, materials, microtech and low-cost, easy-to-read infectious disease tests.

She also is honored for teaching, outstanding mentoring, advancing diversity and inclusion and creating and supporting international programs in science and engineering.

“Being elected as an AAAS Fellow is a tremendous honor and a humbling experience for me,” Alocilja said. “I thank God for this unexpected recognition. I also thank my students for their hard work, my colleagues for their encouragement and my family for their support. The AAAS mission of ‘advancing science, serving society’ encapsulates my passion and will continue to guide my future endeavors.”

Dr. Alocilja is a 1973 Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, cum laude graduate from SU. She received her Outstanding Sillimanian Award in the field of Biosystems Engineering in 2013.
