William Barry Thompson Learning Center

The Silliman University New Zealand Alumni Association (SUNZAA) is heading the preparations for the upcoming conferral of the degree of Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa, on philanthropist Mr. William Barry Thompson, a New Zealander. Due to Mr. Thompson’s inability to travel because of his condition, Silliman University is conferring the award on July 13, 2018 in Auckland where he currently stays. Representing the University at the awarding will be Mr. Ricardo A. Balbido, Jr., Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Theresa A. Guino-o, Dean of the College of Nursing.

Mr. Thompson has been giving scholarships and learning materials to schools, including Silliman University. His scholarships have benefited around a hundred Nursing students in Silliman alone and the building he donated, known now as the William Barry Thompson Learning Resource Center, is one of the major host facilities of the College of Nursing.

Auckland-based alumni who are interested to attend the conferral and dinner reception may contact Phil-Amrico Balbuena, SUNZAA president, through Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sunzaa/.
