Alumni Updates October 1 – 7, 2018

Alumnus Dr. Ceres E. Pioquinto, Editor-in-Chief of the English Teachers Association Switzerland (ETAS) Journal: A Peer-reviewed Magazine for English Professionals, shares with us a book she co-edited, entitled, Becoming Research Literate – Supporting Teacher Research in English Language Teaching.

The book is now published online and can be accessed through the ETAS website https://www.e-tas.ch/Becomingresearchliterate for free use by the Silliman academic community. For anyone interested in teacher research, regardless of their academic specialization, this is a valuable resource. Dr. Pioquinto says, “Sharing this book with the Silliman community is my modest way of giving back”. The book addresses some key issues, among others the definitions of teacher research as well as the different kinds of support that teachers require in order for them to become research literate, be able to engage in research, as well as share research.

Dr. Pioquinto now based in Switzerland, earned her AB English in 1975, Cum Laude, and her MA English in 1979 at Silliman. She later pursued her PhD in Contemporary Literary and Asian and Cultural Studies from the University of Sydney in 1995. She served as SU English and Literature Department Chairperson from 1996 – 2002. She is happily married to Dr. Christian K. Schales, a former Silliman visiting professor from Germany.
