SUHS Class 1954 donates painting of Artist Paking Verano
The Silliman University High School Class of 1954 donated a 32” x 46” inch acrylic painting entitled, The Mountain Calls, by artist Francisco M. Verano last August 29, 2019. A simple turnover of the painting was held at the Silliman University Board Room, with SU President, Betty Cernol-McCann, formally receiving the painting in the presence of the artist himself who is a member of SUHS Class 1954. Present during the turnover were, SUHS 1954 Class President, Atty. Victoriano L. Tizon, Vice President for Development, Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino, Alumni and External Affairs Director, Ruben N. Bokingo and other members of high school class 1954.
Paking Verano, as he is fondly called by his high school classmates, is well-known for his sculptures made of unconventional and indigenous materials. As a painter adept in watercolor and acrylic media, he merges two-dimensional forms with sculptures. His landscapes and still life paintings garnered him awards from the Art Association of the Philippines and from the Shell National Students Art Competition.
