ANNOUNCEMENT: TO ALL STUDENTS & PARENTS OF SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BASIC EDUCATION (SBE)

ANNOUNCEMENT: TO ALL STUDENTS & PARENTS OF SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BASIC EDUCATION (SBE)

First, Silliman University (SU) sends a heartfelt prayer for families and communities in Visayas and Mindanao that have been affected by the typhoon Odette. We understand that a lot of communities are still suffering from the typhoon’s aftermath, which may include loss of shelter and other basic necessities, power outages, and unrestored telecommunication lines.

To help our students adapt to this difficult situation that has implications on their academic performance, the SU School of Basic Education has made the following adjustments in the dates of requirement submission and task completion:

A. Early Childhood School:
Assessment will continue until the second week of January.

B. Elementary School: Deadlines moved to January 8, 2022

C. Junior High School: Deadlines moved to January 8, 2022

D. Senior High School: Submissions that were due on Dec. 15 and beyond are no longer required for students in affected areas. However, the performance task scores of those who already submitted the given requirement will be included in the computation of grades.

Moreover, the performance task grade of students who were not able to submit the given requirement(s) will be based on a pro-rated score generated from their total scores under written work and other related requirements. Students in these areas must therefore inform their teachers of their location via text, email, and similar communication lines.

Scores for final exams oral presentations, and similar requirements scheduled on Dec. 15 and beyond will also be pro-rated based on available scores in similar requirements, using this formula:Β Β  Available scores divided by HPS, multiplied by HPS of Performance Task or Final exam = Pro-rated score.

To derive the pro-rated score for missed Performance Task (PT) from the student’s total Written Works scores, see the following example:

112/190 (total score in Written Works/highest possible score) X 40(HPS of the PT) = 23.6 (pro-rated raw score.). This is recorded as the student’s Performance Task score.

Second semester enrollment and start of classes in Senior High School will proceed as stated in the University calendar. As usual, there will be a one-week extension of the enrollment period.

We are asking for your patience and understanding as we make decisions in the best interest of everyone concerned.

Let us continue to pray for those who are adversely affected by typhoon Odette, and send assistance when we can. Have a meaningful Christmas and a hopeful new year!
