Asst. Prof. Danielle Elise Z. Alcantara of the College of Performing and Visual Arts at Silliman University is set to speak at the 50th Anniversary Symposium of Shenandoah University’s Music Therapy Program, on April 25, 2025.
The two-day symposium, taking place from April 25 to 26, brings together alumni and students for a series of networking opportunities, enrichment sessions, and presentations that celebrate the accomplishments of alumni in various fields.
In her presentation titled “The Development of Music Therapy in the Philippines,” Alcantara will discuss the establishment of the music therapy program at Silliman University in Dumaguete City.
She will highlight its remarkable growth and the program’s role in paving the way for the first music therapy center in Central and Southern Philippines—an important milestone for the profession.
Silliman University is the first institution outside Manila to offer a Bachelor of Music major in Music Therapy, and only the second in the country to offer such a program.
Alcantara is a Board-Certified Music Therapist trained at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, USA. She is also a registered nurse and holds a master’s degree in music from Silliman University.
