Divinity School webinar to tackle Protestant mission, American imperialism

The Silliman University Divinity School (SUDS) will hold a webinar on the complex relationship between the Protestant mission and American imperialism in the Philippine context, July 27, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. (GMT+8) via Zoom and Facebook Live through the Silliman University Divinity School Centennial Celebration 2021 Page (https://www.facebook.com/sudscentennial2021).

Titled “Protestant Mission and American Imperialism: History, Impact, and Liberation,” this webinar comes as an interdisciplinary discussion on how Protestants in the United States of America viewed the colonial acquisition of the Philippines and why they were welcomed by the natives during the time.

The pool of speakers includes Dr. Scott Hagley, a professor of Missiology from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, (Pennsylvania, USA), and Dr. Victor R. Aguilan, a full-time faculty in Christian Ethics, Church and Society, Philippine Church History and Philosophy of Religion at the SUDS (Dumaguete, Philippines).

The said webinar is part of the year-long celebration of the centenary of the SUDS, set to be celebrated from August 28 to 30 via the virtual space with a thousand alumni, friends, partners expected to attend the online event.
