Dr. Dorothy Ann “Doris” Bermejo-Pulido, first lady of Silliman University from 1996 to 2006, passed away at the age of 88 last December 25, 2020.

Below is a short narrative about her life written by Asst. Prof. Ian Rosales Casocot:

Dr. Dorothy Ann “Doris” Bermejo-Pulido [1932-2020] was First Lady of Silliman University from 1996 to 2006. A practitioner of family medicine, she sat in the boards of the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines and the Philippine Association of Family Physicians. She was the medical director of the Iloilo Mission Hospital, and was a member of the Central Philippine University Corporation and the Iloilo Mission Hospital Board of Trustees. She also served as chairperson of the Board of Deacons at the Baptist Church in Central Philippines University. At Silliman University, she was a member of the Board of Elders of the Silliman Church, and was chairperson of its personnel committee, which chose the pastors to lead the church. “All First Ladies should learn from Ma’am Doris,” Moses Joshua Atega once wrote of her. “She never put any effort to make her presence felt, and her way of helping her husband was always in a silent and humble manner. [She felt] no need for [an] audience, and tried to go unnoticed as much as possible. For this unassuming nature, she [was] greatly admired by many. She [was] a big sister to many women at Silliman Church to whom she taught through her example of a life dedicated to Christian service.”
