EDRPI office hosts Research Agenda Setting Activity

The Silliman University (SU) Office of the Executive Director for Research, Publication, and Innovation (RPI), through interim executive director Dr. Robert S. Guino-o II, hosted the “Research Agenda Setting Activity for 2025-2030: Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable Development, Addressing Ethics, Environment, Health, and Societal Well-being,” on May 20, 2025, at Room 1, Guy Hall.

Convening the deans, directors, research coordinators and representatives from the different academic units across SU, Guino-o explained that the event aimed to “seek your input in how we can improve the research system in the university.”

According to Guino-o, the arts, humanities, and religious studies have yet to be clearly positioned within the research landscape of the university. Innovation, patents, communications, and gender inclusivity also need to be thoughtfully integrated. There remains a question of whether existing university studies have given sufficient emphasis to gender and development (GAD).

Addressing faculty members in attendance, he also added, “We need to come up with an agenda that you have identified as worth pursuing… Your presence here really means to us because you will [eventually] be sharing your input…”

The Research Agenda Setting was co-facilitated by Dr. Epifania D. Anfone, SU Board of Trustee member and chair of the sub-committee on Research under the Programs and Services Committee.

“Silliman University is a research university,” Anfone underscored in her welcome address.

“We need to continue to pursue research and development projects that are relevant to the community, the province, the country, and the global economy,” she said.
