Former Service-Learning director named 2021 Outstanding Professional of the Year

Prof. Emervencia L. Ligutom, former director of the Silliman University Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning (SU OCESL), was named the 2021 Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Social Work by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Aside from being the former OCESL director, Ligutom served as a faculty member of the SU Social Work Department for more than 30 years before she retired.

The Outstanding Professional of the Year Award is the highest award bestowed by PRC upon a professional as recommended by their peers for “having sufficiently demonstrated professional competence of the highest degree and conducted himself/herself with integrity in the exercise of his/her profession; meaningfully participated in professional activities through the professional organization; significantly contributed to the advancement of the profession; and sincerely and effectively discharged personal and professional social responsibility through meaningful; contribution/participation in socio-related activities.”

   

Last November 2019, Ligutom was awarded the Outstanding Social Worker of the Philippines by the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) after being nominated by the PASWI Negros Oriental and Siquijor Chapter, which she led as its president.
