Global Nursing experts visit SU as International Nursing Symposium opens

Guests for the International Nursing Symposium 2026 hosted by the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) – Negros Oriental Chapter and Silliman University College of Nursing (SUCN) paid a courtesy call at the Silliman University (SU) Boardroom Annex on January 19, 2026, ahead of the opening of the International Nursing Symposium.

Among them were Dr. Lorraine Evangelista, professor emeritus of the University of California, who will deliver the keynote address titled “Advancing Nursing Education, Research, & Practice Through Global Collaboration,” along with Dr. Joshua Jaime Nario of Makati Medical Center’s Center for Nursing Education, Advancement & Research, Dr. Jennifer Kawi of UTHealth Houston, and Dr. Andrew Thomas Reyes of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The latter three will serve as plenary speakers in various sessions of the symposium.

They were welcomed by SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann and SUCN Dean Dr. Theorose June Q. Bustillo.

Kicking off today, January 20, at the SU Library, the two-day International Nursing Symposium carries the theme “Advancing Nursing Scholarship: Bridging Theory, Research, and Practice,” and aims to bring together nurses from local and international communities for meaningful dialogue on contemporary nursing issues within global and local contexts.

The event also highlights the outstanding quality of nursing education in Negros Oriental, particularly in Dumaguete City.

It is co-hosted by the PNA – Negros Oriental Chapter led by Dr. Rozzano Gregorio Ramon Agustin C. Locsin and SU under the leadership of McCann, with invited guests including Dumaguete City Mayor Hon. Manuel Sagarbarria, NORSU President Dr. Noel Marjon Yasi, Foundation University President Victor Vicente G. Sinco, SPUD President Sr. Mila Grace Silab, and NOPH Chief of Hospital Dr. Marc Angelo C. Ilosa.
