Marine scientist Krys Jypson T. Esturas to speak at Elementary School graduation ceremony & at SHS baccalaureate service
Kris Jypson T. Esturas is a marine scientist and passionate advocate for marine conservation, currently serving as a spatial planner and research associate at the Marine Environment and Resources Foundation.
He completed his Master of Science in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems through the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (TROPIMUNDO), a program spanning four universities in Belgium, France, Italy, and Australia. He graduated with the Best Student Award and summa cum laude honors, distinguishing himself among a global pool of scholars.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology (summa cum laude) from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he was recognized as the Most Outstanding BS Biology Graduate and recipient of the College of Science Excellence Award. As an undergraduate, he founded UP Buglas, a socio-civic organization devoted to outreach and sustainable development in his home province of Negros Oriental.
Esturas’ academic roots were formed at Silliman University, where he graduated With Highest Honors in Senior High School (STEAM track), and served in various leadership roles including the SU-SHS Student Council and the university’s archery varsity team, winning a gold medal in the Palarong Pambansa. He was also recognized with the Student Athlete of the Year and Mercury Drug Excellence in Math Awards. His earlier education at Silliman University Junior High School and Elementary School was marked by consistent academic excellence—he graduated valedictorian at both levels and actively participated in science competitions, journalism, and varsity athletics.
In recognition of his commitment to science and community service, he was named one of the 10 Outstanding Dumaguetnon Youth by the Dumaguete City Mayor’s Office in 2024.
The Silliman University (SU) Elementary School will have its graduation ceremony tomorrow, May 14, 2025 (Wednesday), 3:00 PM, at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
Meanwhile, the Senior High School (SHS) Department’s Baccalaureate Service at Silliman Church will be on May 16, 2025, at 8:30 AM, while its Graduation Exercises will be at the SU Gymnasium at 2:00 PM.
