Nagoya Gakuin University students visit SU for educational tour
Ten Physical Therapy students and one faculty member from Nagoya Gakuin University, Japan, visited Silliman University (SU) from September 1 to 11, 2025, for an educational tour hosted by the SU Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences (IRS). The delegation was led by faculty member Yuji Matsuda, while the program at SU was spearheaded by IRS Director Dr. Paolo Manuel G. Jimenez.
The visit aimed to strengthen academic and cultural exchange between Nagoya Gakuin University and SU’s IRS.

Through a series of lectures, clinical visits, and interactive activities with SU students, the program provided valuable learning experiences and fostered collaboration, cross-cultural understanding, and friendships among future physical therapists.
As part of their academic exposure, the Japanese students attended lectures and observed laboratory classes to learn about current practices in Philippine physical therapy education. They also toured SU’s community-based rehabilitation clinics, partner hospitals, and internship centers to gain insights into clinical training and patient care in the local context.

To complement the academic program, cultural and social activities were organized with SU physical therapy students for cultural sharing and student interaction. Guided tours around Dumaguete City allowed the Japanese visitors to experience local traditions, lifestyle, and community life beyond the university setting.
In a post-evaluation survey, according to Jimenez, the Nagoya Gakuin University students described the program as a highly positive experience, expressing deep satisfaction and appreciation for the activities and learning opportunities provided during their stay.
