OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON CAMPUS BOMB SCARE

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON CAMPUS BOMB SCARE

Silliman University (SU) reiterates the assurance it gave the public on July 19, 2019 that the SU campus is safe and secure. A thorough inspection of all facilities in the university was made by security personnel and no explosive device was found.

Immediately after the university administration received a Facebook message warning of a bomb on campus, proper authorities, including the Philippine National Police units and the K9 team of the Philippine Coast Guard, were informed and consulted. Based on available information at that time, in order to avoid fear and panic, university officials ordered the suspension of work and classes as part of a two-day disaster response activity that was being undertaken on campus. After the university premises were cleared of students and personnel and to address concerns circulating on social media arising from a screenshot of a Facebook message received earlier by one of the constituent groups of the university warning of a bomb on campus, an official advisory was issued informing the public of the bomb threat. Eventually, no explosive device was found.

We would like to enjoin our faculty, staff, students, and the entire community for your understanding and support about the situation. Rest assured, Silliman University will continue to give paramount consideration to the safety of its students and personnel and continue to implement security, communication and evacuation measures as recommended by security and risk management professionals.
