Outstanding Sillimanian Honored in New York AAPI Celebration

Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee Dr. Evangeline Bravo-Manjares was recently recognized as the honoree representing the Philippines during the Town of Hempstead’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration held on May 30, 2025.

The celebration highlights the town’s commitment to honoring individuals from diverse backgrounds and acknowledging the rich history and contributions of the AAPI community. Dr. Manjares, a Silliman University alumna and current member of the Silliman University Board of Trustees, was honored for her exceptional service and impact.

In its official citation, the Town of Hempstead noted: “Whereas the Town of Hempstead does desire to recognize all outstanding individuals who have rendered significant contributions for the enhancement of our region and the betterment of our residents… the Town of Hempstead is proud to recognize Dr. Evangeline Manjares for an untiring devotion and outstanding dedication to the residents of America’s largest township.”

Observed annually in May, AAPI Heritage Month celebrates the history, cultures, and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States. It is a time to reflect on the diversity within the AAPI community and to honor the stories and traditions that continue to enrich American society.
