
PAASCU resurveys SU’s 4 programs: social work, music, agriculture, & physical therapy
Silliman University (SU) hosted the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) Accreditation team’s welcome dinner, on March 9, 2025, at the SU Hall grounds.
Four (4) academic programs were resurveyed by the PAASCU. These are SU’s (1) Social Work of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), (2) Music of the College of Performing and Visual Arts (COPVA), (3) Agriculture of the College of Agriculture, and (4) Physical Therapy of the Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences (IRS).
The activity was coordinated by the SU Office of Quality Instruction and Excellence (OQIE). SU’s Music Program has been granted PAASCU Level 1 Accreditation while the rest, PAASCU Level 2 Accreditation.
The Social Work Program accreditors were led by team chairperson Dr. Janette Rodriguez, PAASCU Commission on Tertiary Education secretary and Holy Angel University (HAA) School of Professional Education and Lifelong Learning director, together with Dr. Leah Mae Jabiles-Evasco, Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) Social Work Department; Dr. Imelda Macaraig, St. Mary’s College of Quezon City (SMCQC) college dean; Aaron Kim Gil, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-Recoletos) Social Work Program head; Asst. Prof. Pacita Fortin, Miriam College; and Jane Martinez, PAASCU representative.
For the Music Program, team chairperson Dr. Rodriguez led accreditors, including Dr. Josefina Antonio, St. Paul’s University Manila (SPU Manila) College of Music and the Performing Arts chairperson; Dr. Anabelle Balor, University of Saint La Salle (USLS) Bacolod vice president for Academic Affairs (VPAA); Patrick August Anthony Frias, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB or Benilde) School Design and Arts Music Production Program chair; and Jane Martinez, PAASCU representative.
For the Agriculture Program, team chairperson Dr. Rodriguez led accreditors, including Dr. Balor, USLS Bacolod VPAA; Dr. Jaime Cabarles, Central Philippine University (CPU) Iloilo College of Agriculture Resources and Environmental Sciences dean; Dr. Maria Rosario Mosqueda, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan College of Agriculture dean; Judith Pit, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan Agriculture Department chair; and Jane Martinez, PAASCU representative.
For the Physical Therapy Program, team chairperson Dr. Ma. Cecilia Licuan, De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) College of Rehabilitation Sciences dean led the group together with Dr. Natalizia Pagtakhan, DLSMHSI Department of Physical Therapy program director; Dr. Pia Vanessa Basilio, Angeles University Foundation College of Medical and Allied Professions dean; and Jane Martinez, PAASCU representative.
The PAASCU team was welcomed by Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, SU president; Dr. Margaret Helen U. Alvarez, interim vice president for Academic Affairs and Research (VPAAR); Rev. Jonathan R. Pia, SU Church senior minister; and other SU administrative and academic heads.
