PRESS STATEMENT 

Subject:                    2016 SU-SUFA Collective Bargaining Agreement Signed

After over a year of negotiations, the Negotiating Panels of the Silliman Administration and the Silliman University Faculty Association (SUFA) signed on 3 August 2017 a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) covering school years 2016 to 2019.

The 2016 SU-SUFA CBA provides across-the-board salary increases and improvements in medical, schooling, and retirement benefits, as were  proposed by the Administration Panel since last year, but now adjusted based on recalculations that reflect actual enrollments and revenues in the past two and current semesters.

The Administration Panel believes that these improvements offer fair increases in salaries and benefits to the faculty without seriously risking, at least for now, the University’s present levels of services for students, in terms of scholarships and tuition subsidies, campus housing and related food and security services, support for campus and off-campus student activities, and keeping intact (maintaining at the same rate) the tuition of already enrolled students from entry to graduation.

The 2016 SU-SUFA CBA also allows the University to keep improving its ability to protect and develop its educational resources and assets to maintain its autonomous status and accreditation levels, and its services to the public.

Details of the new CBA will be distributed and explained by the two Panels to their respective constituencies.

The Administration Panel wishes to thank its SUFA colleagues, the National Conciliation and Mediation Board, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Tripartite Industrial and Peace Council of Negros Oriental for the completion of negotiations on this CBA.
