The Rappler team paid a courtesy call to Silliman University (SU) President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann at the President’s Office on February 4, 2026, following the successful staging of the 29th Marshall McLuhan Forum on Responsible Media.

The delegation included Samantha Bagayas, head of Civic Engagement; Pia Ranada, head of Community and 2024 Marshall McLuhan Fellow and keynote speaker; Chay Hofileña, investigative editor and training head; Patrick Cruz, multimedia reporter; and Shay Du, researcher-writer. They were joined by Asst. Prof. Irma Faith B. Pal, College of Mass Communication (CMC) dean.

The visit formed part of activities surrounding the forum co-hosted by SU, through the CMC, in partnership with the Kapunungan sa mga Mass Communicators (KMC), and the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines on February 2, 2026, at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium. The event gathered media practitioners, students, and community members to discuss the challenges and future of journalism.

As CMC marks its diamond jubilee, the college also partnered with Rappler for the anti-corruption roadshow, “#CorruptionWatch: Spot, report, stop it,” held in Dumaguete City from February 2 to 5, 2026.

The roadshow featured hands-on workshops from February 2 to 4, followed by a town hall-style public forum on February 5. The forum, which was open and free to the public, brought together Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental public officials, community movers, and civil society leaders for a panel discussion on promoting transparency and accountability.
