Within the framework of the basic commitment of Silliman University to the Christian faith, the College of Law aims: (1) to prepare students for a career in Law; (2) to train them for service, responsibility and leadership in the government and the private sector; (3) to instill professional growth and improvement; and (4) to produce competent, honest and dedicated lawyers motivated by the ideals of truth, justice and Christian love.In addition to other applicable University rules, the Juris Doctor (JD) is conferred upon students who have satisfied the entrance requirements and completed the full course of instruction, with a cumulative Q.P.A. of 2.3, as minimum requirement.

The College is housed in the Cornelio T. Villareal Hall, along Hibbard Avenue near the downtown area of Dumaguete City, on the idyllic Silliman campus.  It has spacious classrooms, a comfortable moot court, and convenient student and faculty lounges. The Law Library is now located on the second floor of Villareal Hall, adjoining the classrooms and readily accessible to all students and faculty. It is fully airconditioned.

School Year 2021-2022

Under Legal Education Board (LEB) Memorandum Circular No. 76, Series of 2021, in lieu of the Philippine Law School Admission Test (PhiLSAT), law schools are mandated to administer their own substitute admission exams to individuals who wish to be admitted into the law program for academic year 2021-2022. However, since the conduct of a substitute admission exam remains difficult due to current government covid-19 health protocols, in lieu thereof, and as allowed under the said LEB memorandum circular, the Silliman University (S.U.) College of Law is implementing a retention policy for freshman students who will admitted in the coming academic year. The retention policy is stated in the S.U. College of Law Guidebook for Students, a digital copy of which will be provided to every law student upon enrollment.

While applicants are not subject to PhiLSAT and the substitute admission exam, admission to the S.U. College of Law for academic year 2021-2022 is still contingent on the following:

c. An original essay (saved in PDF format) written by the applicant of not more than 1,000 words. Choose one of the following topics:

I. Next year will be election year again. Propose reforms to ensure that we get the right kind of leaders necessary to ensure true development and progress for all.
