Vision

Mission
To produce medical graduates [a] who can excel in any of the responsible roles as health providers, teachers, researchers, administrators, and social mobilizers in the Philippine health care system; [b] who possess the necessary skills for a lifelong and self-directed learning; and [c] whose caring, compassion and social consciousness emphasize the quality of such education.

Philosophy
This medical education is committed to the development of physicians who maintain and promote the health of the community in line with changing medical needs and demands of the time in the pursuit of medical excellence.

Silliman University’s medical education is also committed to the development of educators who foster a student-centered learning process, who can upgrade such medical education, and who can serve as student models. The development of quality Christian education – as spelled out in the objectives of the School – is a commitment to excellence in the next millennium.

Objectives

  • To develop knowledgeable professionals who can define and manage the health problems of the patient, the family and the  community.
  • To nurture the creative thinking skills and problem-solving abilities of medical students.
  • To master the strategies for case analysis in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • To encourage student resourcefulness in data gathering and interpretation.
  • To foster leadership capabilities among the students as well as  enhance their active participation in a team of health care providers.
  • To encourage students into a lifelong and self-directed learning.
  • To inculcate in students the feelings of sensitivity, empathy and compassion in dealing with patients, relatives and colleagues in the health profession.
  • To promote ethical and moral values in the studentry.
  • To develop the students’ capability to use the holistic approach to patient care.

The Silliman University Medical School (SUMS) is now accepting applications for Doctor of Medicine for SY 2025-2026.

NOTE: All guidelines and procedures here encompass only Step 1 of the SUMS Applications and Admissions Flowchart (see Flowchart below). Applicants can only proceed to Step 2 once Step 1 has been completed.

STEP 1 GUIDELINES 

1. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree with a General Weighted Average Grade (GWAG) of at least 85% or its equivalent (for SU graduates, at least 2.5 QPA).

2. The age limit for applicants is 40 years old.

3. Applicants must have taken the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) with a percentile rank of 60 or above and a validity of two (2) years.

4. SUMS will start accepting and processing applications of qualified students in April 2025 (via [email protected]) along with the other supporting documents. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2025.

5. Applicants must submit all requirements as a single PDF file and as scanned copies from their original files.

a. The PDF file name must strictly follow the format below:
FAMILY NAME (in caps), Given Name MIDDLE NAME (in caps)

b. The following requirements must be emailed NO LATER THAN JUNE 15, 2025. Only those who submitted a COMPLETE set of requirements will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis.

i. Duly accomplished Application Form with latest passport-size picture

ii. Official Transcript of Records (TOR) showing completion of a degree course and GWAG (General Weighted Average Grade) of at least 85% or its equivalent (for SU graduates, at least 2.5 QPA).
Attach a Certificate of Transfer Credential/ Honorable Dismissal if not a graduate of Silliman University.
Transcript of Records MUST indicate the purpose of “Admission to Medical School.” Unless indicated for another purpose, the application will NOT be accepted.
For graduates of private schools, TORs must be validated by a Special Order from CHED, while those from public schools, an authenticated copy of the Diploma or Certificate of Graduation is required.

iii. Certificate of percentage equivalent of General Weighted Average Grade (GWAG) of 85% or above from the Registrar’s Office if not a graduate of Silliman University

iv. NMAT Official Result with percentile rank of 60 or above
Secure 2 original copies: 1 for SU and 1 for personal file for future PRC Board Exam use.
This must be the official copy of the result they mail to the examinees. The electronic copy of the NMAT result will NOT be accepted.

v. Certificates of Recommendation from two (2) professors in college, addressed to:

vi. 3 Screenings for Hepatitis (from any laboratory):

      • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Result
      • Antibody to Hepatitis B s Antigen Result
      • Total Antibody to HB c Antigen Result

vii. Psychological Exam Result
This can be taken at any Testing Center or Clinic or at the Silliman University Guidance and Testing Center (see Psychological Test Procedure below for more details).

viii. Birth certificate issued by PSA

ix. Barangay Clearance

x. Recommendation letter from the latest employer with the Company letterhead and contact details (if with Employment History), addressed to:

xi. COVID-19 Vaccination card/s (primary doses given, then include card for booster doses if given)

6. Applicants must undergo a scheduled interview with the Admissions Committee as soon as requirements for admission are met.

A face-to-face interview will be conducted for residents within Negros Oriental. On the other hand, residents outside Negros Oriental will have an online interview.

7. The following students are not encouraged to apply:

a. NMAT less than 60 percentile rank and General Weighted Average Grade (GWAG) of less than 85 percent.
b. No NMAT result or has not taken the NMAT exam yet.
c. Application for a lateral entry at any year level (not allowed or accepted).
d. Those who failed in another medical school in the 1st-year level (may apply if willing to go back to 1st-year Level).
8. The Admissions Committee’s decision is final, and applicants will be notified of the application results after the interview.

PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST PROCEDURE

1. Pay the testing fee of Three Hundred Fifty Pesos (Php 350.00) at the Business and Finance Office.
2. Proceed to the Testing Center, 3rd Floor, Oriental Hall, for scheduling of your preferred date and present your receipt of payment.
3. Be at Oriental Hall 5 to 10 minutes before your scheduled test. Testing starts at exactly 8:30 AM.
4. The Testing Center is open from Monday to Friday.
5. A maximum of ten (10) people will be accommodated each day on a first-come, first-served basis.
6. Bring 1 pencil and 1 pen.
7. Present your original receipt to Ma’am Johanna.
8. Your test results will be sent to you as soon as they are available.
