ABOUT

Vision

To become the leading institution in the region in providing quality medical education committed to produce competent physicians who are guided by Christian principles in the provision of excellent health care.

 

Mission

To produce medical graduates [a] who can excel in any of the responsible roles as health providers, teachers, researchers, administrators, and social mobilizers in the Philippine health care system; [b] who possess the necessary skills for a lifelong and self-directed learning; and [c] whose caring, compassion and social consciousness emphasize the quality of such education.

 

Philosophy

This medical education is committed to the development of physicians who maintain and promote the health of the community in line with changing medical needs and demands of the time in the pursuit of medical excellence.

Silliman University’s medical education is also committed to the development of educators who foster a student-centered learning process, who can upgrade such medical education, and who can serve as student models. The development of quality Christian education – as spelled out in the objectives of the School – is a commitment to excellence in the next millennium.

 

Objectives

  • To develop knowledgeable professionals who can define and manage the health problems of the patient, the family and the  community.
  • To nurture the creative thinking skills and problem-solving abilities of medical students.
  • To master the strategies for case analysis in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • To encourage student resourcefulness in data gathering and interpretation.
  • To foster leadership capabilities among the students as well as  enhance their active participation in a team of health care providers.
  • To encourage students into a lifelong and self-directed learning.
  • To inculcate in students the feelings of sensitivity, empathy and compassion in dealing with patients, relatives and colleagues in the health profession.
  • To promote ethical and moral values in the studentry.
  • To develop the students’ capability to use the holistic approach to patient care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be a holder of any baccalaureate degree with National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) percentile rank determined by the Admissions Committee. Application of qualified students must be submitted to the Medical School starting March (thru e-mail [email protected]). The deadline for submission is extended until July 30, 2021.

2. Must email to the Medical School the following scanned documents from the original copy (List can be viewed at su.edu.ph under ‘Registrar & Admissions – Admission Procedures’):

*SUBMIT THESE AS ONE-PDF FILE FOLLOWING THE ORDER OF THE REQUIREMENTS AS LISTED BELOW.

a. Duly accomplished Application Form with latest passport-size picture (can be downloaded from the University website su.edu.ph under ‘Registrar & Admissions – Admission Procedures’)

b. NMAT Official Result with a percentile rank of 60 or above (Secure 2 original copies – 1 for SU and 1 for personal file for PRC Board Exam use)

c. 3 Screenings of Hepatitis (any laboratory):

    • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
    • Antibody to Hepatitis B s Antigen
    • Total Antibody to HB c Antigen

d. Psychological Exam Result (any office/clinic)

e. Certificates of recommendation from two (2) professors in college

f. Official Transcript of Records showing completion of a degree course and GWAG (General Weighted Average Grade) of at least 85% or its equivalent (for SU graduate, at least 2.5 QPA). Attach an Honorable Dismissal/Transfer Credential if not a graduate of Silliman University.

*For graduates of private schools, the transcript of record is validated by a Special Order from CHED. For graduates of public schools, an authenticated copy of the diploma or certificate of graduation must be presented.

g. Certificate of percentage equivalent of GWAG (General Weighted Average Grade) of 85% or above from the Registrar’s Office if not a graduate of Silliman University

h. Birth certificate issued by the NSO / PSA

i. Barangay Clearance

*Only those with COMPLETE requirements will be evaluated. The deadline for submission is extended until July 30, 2021.

3. Must undergo an online interview with the Admissions Committee as soon as requirements for admission have been submitted.

4. The following students are not encouraged to apply:

  • NMAT less than 60 percentile rank and GWAG of less than 85 percent
  • No NMAT result
  • Those who failed in another medical school
  • Application for lateral entry in any year level

5. The decision of the Admissions Committee is final and the applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application on the day of the interview.

Note:

  • NMAT result validity is two (2) years only
  • Age limit for applicants is 40 yrs. Old

PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST PROCEDURE

  1. Kindly pay the testing fee of Three Hundred Pesos (PhP 300.00) at the Business and Finance Office.
  2. Take a picture of the official receipt and send it to j[email protected]/
  3. Your Guidance Counselor will schedule your test and will send you a link to the Psychological tests.
  4. You will take the test online.
  5. Test results will be available for submission.
