SHS faculty member bags 1st place in research presentation at int’l eLearning congress

Jan Cynth L. Palama, a faculty member of the Silliman University (SU) Senior High School, won first place in the “Best Research Presentation” competition at the 5th International Congress on eLearning, September 7-9, 2023 in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

Palama presented the paper, “Online Teaching Resources and Educational Tools Used during Covid19: The Case of Filipino Teachers,” which he co-authored with Dr. Dave E. Marcial, director of the SU Dr. Mariano Lao Global Studies Center (GSC), and SOUL staff members Cindy Ruth Villariza and Steve Binarao.

Research papers led by representatives of the SU-Lao GSC were also presented during the congress: “Development of a Web-based Open Educational Resources System: Open Online Courses, Educational Platforms, Teaching-Learning Resource” by Marcial, Dr. Myra E. Villanueva, Asst. Prof. Alfie Q. Arcelo, Peter Villariza, Jade O. Montemayor, and Asst. Prof. Sarah Angela Ragay; “Order Thinking Skills during the Pandemic: The Case in the Higher Education Institution in the Philippines” by Marcial, Aurielle Lisa Z. Maypa, Fredlie T. Bucog, and Grace L. Apao; and “Perceived Benefits and Risks of China’s ‘Internet Plus’ in Legal Education: A Structured Review” by Marcial and Zhou Yao.

The congress was organized by the Philippine eLearning Society (PeLS) with the theme, “Breaking the ICE: Innovations, Collaborations and Engagement Towards a Stable and Inclusive Hybrid Learning Ecosystem.”

PeLS is currently led by Asst. Prof. Janice Antoniette V. Forster, SU Technology Business Incubator manager, as its president.
