Silliman produces 14 newly registered certified public accountants

Silliman University (SU), through its College of Business Administration (CBA), produced 14 new Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the recent licensure examination, recording an overall passing rate of 77.78%, with an impressive 85.71% success rate among first-time takers, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Of the 18 SU examinees, 14 were first-time takers, while four were repeat takers.

SU’s overall performance significantly exceeded the national passing rate of 33.11%, underscoring the University’s strong academic foundation and commitment to excellence in accountancy education.

The College of Business Administration has consistently implemented reforms to enhance the quality of instruction and improve student outcomes. Dr. Wilma Tejero-Libarios, dean of the CBA, shared that beginning two years ago, the College began screening incoming freshmen through an entrance examination administered by the Accountancy Department. The Accountancy curriculum was also revised, with the final semester of the fourth year now fully devoted to board examination review courses. To support this shift, the On-the-Job Training and Research courses were moved to the third year, allowing students to focus exclusively on their review during their final semester.

In addition to curricular reforms, the College has strengthened its faculty lineup. It has enlisted a part-time lecturer in Taxation from Punongbayan & Araullo, as well as a visiting lecturer for the same subject from SGV. A new faculty member specializing in Special Laws has also been brought in. Furthermore, all faculty members in the Accountancy Department are regularly sent to continuing professional education seminars, an effort that underscores the College’s commitment to faculty development and academic excellence.

The dean also emphasized the importance of the College’s partnership with the CBA and the parents of Accountancy students. As part of board exam preparations, parents were asked to ensure that reviewees refrain from taking full-time or part-time employment, allowing them to focus fully on their review.

Tejero-Libarios emphasized that some of these reforms have already positively impacted student performance in the licensure exam. “With new measures undertaken at CBA, we wish to report that of the 13 fresh graduates, 12 passed (92.3%) and 1 is conditional,” she said.

She extended her heartfelt congratulations to the successful candidates, describing their achievement as “a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and dedication.”
Tejero-Libarios also expressed deep appreciation for the collective effort behind this milestone, commending the faculty of the Accountancy Department, the Business Law and Taxation team, and the entire CBA community for their “tireless efforts, unwavering commitment, and faith.”

Congratulations to all our newly registered CPAs! You make us all at SU very proud!
