SU and nursing alumnus Alilaen Jr. ink scholarship MOA

Silliman University (SU) inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Poincare C. Alilaen, Jr. on Friday, March 7, 2025, to establish the Poincare C. Alilaen, Jr.

Academic Excellence Award in Nursing, a scholarship fund for outstanding level one, level two, level three, and level four Nursing students at SU.

Signed by Poincare C. Alilaen, Jr. himself, SU alumnus, and Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, SU president, the scholarship provides financial incentives to students who excel in their respective year levels as follows:

a. Best in Nursing Theory for level 1 student
b. Best in Nursing Theory and Best in Nursing Practice for levels 2, 3, and 4 students.

According to the agreement, this prestigious award and the corresponding monetary incentive will be regularly awarded “during the College of Nursing Week celebrations, on the occasion of the Academic Convocation, a momentous event that will be attended by students, faculty, alumni, and guests to recognize and celebrate the legacy and achievements of [Silliman University College of Nursing] SUCN.”
A true red Sillimanian, Poincare C. Alilaen, Jr. graduated from SUHS Class of 1977 and went on to take his BBA in Management in 1981 and BS in Nursing in 1988.

Shortly after, he placed 6th in the Nursing Board Exam.

Together with McCann at the SU Boardroom Annex were Dr. Margaret Helen U. Alvarez, interim vice president for Academic Affairs and Research (VPAAR); Dr. Theresa A. Guino-o, SUCN dean; Dr. Edna Gladys T. Calingacion, Office of Student Services dean; Dr. Warlito S. Caturay Jr., Office of Media and Public Affairs chief; Ruben N. Bokingo, Office of Alumni and External Affairs director; and Glynnis Jean C. Casiño, Strategic Partnership and Enterprise Development officer-in-charge.
