SU Biology invites Pre-Med Class of 1967 to the Molecular Biology Lab open house

The Silliman University (SU) Pre-Med Class of 1967 visited the SU Molecular Biology Laboratory during the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) – Biology Department’s Open House, in time for the 124th SU Founders Day Celebration, on August 27, 2025.

The Molecular Biology Laboratory was a generous donation of the Pre-Med Class of 1967 through Drs. Enrico C. and Esther L. Sobong.

Dr. Robert S. Gunio-o II, executive director for Research, Publication, and Innovation (RPI) and concurrent director of Silliman University Angelo King Center for Research and Environmental Management (SUAKCREM), facilitated a brief conversation between the Biology Department faculty members and members of Class 1967 aimed at giving the donors updates and plans carved out for the molecular biology laboratory.

This laboratory, the only one in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, plays a pivotal role in DNA barcoding and population genetics.

The Pre-Med Class of 1967 present during the open house were Dr. Enrico C. and Dr. Esther L. Sobong, Dr. Myrna Tan Dizon, Dr. Russel Atonson and Mrs. Glenda Atonson, and Rev. Al Senturias and Dr. Erlinda Nable Senturias.

Meanwhile, Guino-o was joined by Assoc. Prof. Michael Lawton R. Alcala, Assoc. Prof. Roy Olsen D. de Leon, Dr. Aileen P. Maypa, Asst. Prof. Persie Mark Q. Sienes, Dr. Aye Mee F. Bartocillo, and Asst. Prof. Ivy C. Adlaon.
