SU Chemistry hosts VSU Baybay’s Tripole for Chem Talk 2025 on Computational Chemistry
In celebration of the Silliman University (SU) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Week, the Chemistry Department hosted CHEM TALK 2025 with guest lecturer Mark Ryan R. Tripole, Visayas State University (VSU) – Baybay Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry head, on March 22, 2025, at the Dr. Dioscoro S. Rabor Science Lecture Room (SC) 110.
Tripole’s lecture titled “The Convergence Between Simulation and Reality: a priori Pathways to Molecular and Materials Chemistry” discussed the role of computational chemistry as a key scientific discipline with advancements in quantum mechanics, molecular simulations, and artificial intelligence enabling highly accurate predictions in chemistry and materials science.
Led by Dr. Flora M. Yrad, Chemistry Department chair, and the SU Chemical Society, the event brought together chemistry students and faculty members from SU and Negros Oriental State University (NORSU). Also present were Dr. Candelario L. Calibo and Prof. Jacob Glenn F. Jansalin, both part-time faculty members of the Chemistry Department and retired professors from VSU, as well as Dr. Andresito D. Acabal and Dr. Alice Martinez-Acabal, also retired professors from VSU.
Dr. Mae Brigitt Bernadel L. Villordon, interim assistant vice president for Academic Affairs (AVPAA) and concurrent CAS dean, welcomed the guests, faculty members, and students at the event.
