SU co-hosts Google for Education’s Project Sinag Workshop

Silliman University (SU), through its Information and Communications Technology Division (ICT), co-hosted the Project SINAG (Supercharging Instruction for National Advancement with Google) Workshops with the Department of Education (DepEd) on December 10, 2025, at the ground floor of the SU Library, bringing together DepEd champion teachers for a professional development program focused on integrating Google tools and artificial intelligence into classroom instruction.
The workshop was spearheaded by Alvin B. Balaba, Rocket Innovations PH | Google for Education Partner Growth and Development Specialist, and was designed for DepEd champion teachers.
Project SINAG aims to strengthen classroom instruction by integrating Google Workspace for Education Plus, Google AI tools such as Gemini and NotebookLM, and enhanced Google Classroom features into daily teaching practices. Participants were also prepared to serve as trainers and mentors in their respective schools, helping expand the impact of digital innovation across the DepEd community.
Throughout the sessions, teachers engaged in hands-on activities focused on maximizing advanced features of Google Docs, Slides, Forms, and other tools for assessment, collaboration, and differentiated instruction. The program also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence to support lesson planning, research, and personalized student learning, as well as Education Plus features in Google Classroom that enhance student engagement and provide insights into learning progress. Participants were further introduced to pathways toward Google Educator certifications and leadership roles in educational technology.
In his welcome message delivered on behalf of SU, Dr. Warlito S. Caturay Jr., chief of the Office of Media and Public Affairs, underscored the importance of innovation in education.
Caturay described Project SINAG as an initiative that “lights fires” among teachers by encouraging curiosity, creativity, and leadership in classrooms. He also expressed SU’s support for partnerships that advance the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of education nationwide.
Project SINAG—named after the Filipino word for “ray of light”—symbolizes the program’s goal of illuminating classrooms across the country by equipping teachers with 21st-century digital skills and fostering a digitally empowered teaching force for the benefit of Filipino learners.
