SU conducts OSH Orientation for FMAS staff and contractors

Silliman University (SU), through its Facilities Management and Administrative Services (FMAS), conducted a one-day Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Orientation Program for its employees and contractors on August 2, 2025, at the Ground Floor of Guy Hall.

The training, organized in partnership with the Occupational Safety and Health Network (OSHNET) and accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), gathered 63 participants, including 23 FMAS staff and representatives from 13 supplier and contractor groups. Among these were BBC, Rose and Daniella Glass and Aluminum Supply, Enrique Sienes Construction Services, CM&T Furniture Repair Services, RC Cabrera Printing Services, and several construction firms such as P&J Construction, MANA Technomechanic, and RJMB Builders.

“The aim of the seminar is not only for compliance under DOLE but for safety awareness and to protect every workingman against dangers of injury, sickness, or death through safe and healthful working conditions. Manpower resources are valuable,” said Engr. Debonaire T. Mamhot, FMAS chief.

The full-day seminar featured sessions on key OSH topics such as general concepts of occupational safety and health, RA 11058 (OSH legislation), chemical safety, administrative OSH requirements, hazard identification and risk assessment, and workplace emergency preparedness. Speakers included Allan M. Villanueva, Ryan A. Laddaran, Marc Langcoyan, and Jocelyn Maxino from OSHNET Negros Oriental-7, Inc., and SOPI.

The seminar also served as a platform for reinforcing basic safety rules and procedures among all personnel working on campus, in alignment with the university’s commitment to ensuring safe working environments.
