Silliman University expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of Dr. Evangeline Bravo-Manjares, an esteemed alumna, Trustee, and Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee.

Bravo-Manjares was a proud AB Sociology graduate of Silliman University (Batch 1967), whose life and career reflected the highest ideals of Christian service and academic excellence.

Based in New York, she had served as dean for Academic Student Services at Nassau Community College under the State University of New York. Her professional journey also included leadership roles at Columbia University, Malcolm-King College of Fordham University, and the United Nations’ Asian Regional Office in the Philippines.

Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom and across borders. Through the Bravo-Manjares Learning Center at Southern Christian College in Midsayap, Cotabato, and initiatives such as the Bookstore Voucher Program that assisted thousands of youth, Bravo-Manjares demonstrated her enduring dedication to community upliftment. In 2010, she was conferred the Outstanding Sillimanian Award for Community Service, recognizing her impactful and sustained contributions.

Even in recent years, Bravo-Manjares continued to bring honor to her alma mater and to the Filipino community. On May 30, 2025, she was recognized as the honoree representing the Philippines during the Town of Hempstead’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration. The Town cited her “untiring devotion and outstanding dedication to the residents of America’s largest township,” affirming her impact beyond the academic sphere and highlighting her meaningful contributions to the broader AAPI community.

Her love for her alma mater was steadfast and enduring. Bravo-Manjares served the University faithfully as a member of the Board of Trustees, representing Alumni International from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2025, and began her second term on July 23, 2025, representing the Silliman University Foundation, Inc. She was also active in the Silliman University Alumni Council of North America (SUACONA), serving as its former Chairperson and as a member of its Executive Committee, strengthening ties among Silliman alumni abroad.

A proud Filipino and servant-leader, Bravo-Manjares leaves behind a legacy of compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment to education and community service.

The Silliman University community extends its deepest sympathies to her family, colleagues, and loved ones. We join them in prayer and gratitude for a life well lived in faithful service.
