SU, PNSVCA kick off National Volunteer Month

Silliman University (SU) and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNSVCA) launched the National Volunteer Month, December 1, 2021 on Facebook and Zoom.

Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann, SU president, emphasized the role of volunteering in the communities as part of Whole Person Education at SU in her welcome remarks.

“The National Volunteer Month is a celebration of volunteerism of nation-wide public awareness of volunteerism and appreciation of volunteerism while a creating an environment for voluntary actions and recognizing volunteers as partners in development,” said National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Assistant Secretary Greg Pineda in his keynote message.

During the launch, the University of Bohol and Negros Oriental State University-Main Campus presented how volunteerism is practiced or organized in the students’ activities in their respective universities.

Pre-pandemic volunteer activities and activities during the pandemic were presented, as well as the universities’ views on the prospects of student volunteerism in the post-COVID-19 time. 

3,902 participants from the academe, local government units, national government agencies, and civil society organizations attended the launch on Facebook and Zoom.

The National Volunteer Month launching was organized by the PNSVCA with the SU Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning, SU Student Government, Student Organizations and Activities Division of the Office of Student Services, and National Service Training Program components Civic Welfare Training Service, Literacy Training Service, and Reserve Officer Training Corps.
