SU SHS faculty members complete UP’s online basic course on resilience
Eight faculty members of the Silliman University (SU) Senior High School (SHS) finished the online course, “The Basics of Resilience,” offered by the University of the Philippines (UP) Resilience Institute in collaboration with the UP Open University (OU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies from January 15 to February 16, 2024.
Among the completers are Asst. Prof. Joshua S. Soldivillo, David B. Ragudo, Floreen Grace P. Estrada, Jirah Kim R. Quinamot, Sheena Louise P. Nodado, Apple Lisa M. Palarpalar, Ronald F. Parpa, and Aloha Marie C. Albina.
The course is a foundational course designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and effectively implement disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). It also encompasses the implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation tools and frameworks.
Soldivillo, the acting team leader, said that the online certificate course is a big help to the team of Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (DRRR) course instructors.
“We have deepened our understanding of DRRR towards the path of building resilience among our students and subsequently, among the members of the Silliman community. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the pioneer batch to complete this program,” he said.
The course was built around four modules that included “Components and Drivers of Disaster Risk,” “Occurrence and Interaction of Natural and Anthropogenic Hazard,” “Exposure and Vulnerability and Increasing Capacity against Hazards,” and “Building Resilience.”
Soon, a series of training courses will also be offered by UPOU, which may be credited towards a UP baccalaureate diploma or a master’s degree in resilience.
The course completers plan to conduct echo trainings in the different academic units in the university.
