SU TEVEC hosts NOATI’s two-day moderation and calibration for 230 trainers and assessors in NegOr

The Silliman University Technical Educational Vocational and Entrepreneurial Center (SU TEVEC), through Blanchie M. Utzurum, TEVEC head and concurrent Negros Oriental Association of TVET Institutions (NOATI), Inc. president, hosted NOATI’s Trainer’s Moderation and Assessor’s Calibration on August 8-9, 2025, at the SU Library’s Uytengsu Transformative Learning Center.

Organized by NOATI, the two-day event featured Guest Speaker Dr. Alfie D. Mahumot, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) VII Bohol’s TESD Specialist II, who led the workshop. It aimed to promote professional alignment, collaboration, and reflection on best practices in Technical and Vocational education.

Speaking on behalf of SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, Utzurrum welcomed all 230 participants present at the event who represented different sectors in Negros Oriental.

“It is both an honor and a privilege for Silliman University to serve as host to this significant undertaking,” Utzurrum underscored in her message.

Addressing the participants, Utzurrum also highlighted the importance of everyone’s presence as “a shared dedication to the advancement of Technical and Vocational education and a collective resolve to maintain excellence, integrity, and consistency in the delivery and assessment of competency-based training programs.”

TESDA Negros Oriental Provincial Director Joel M. Villagracia, in a Facebook video call, spoke of TESDA’s expectations for its trainers who play a vital role in helping TESDA produce job-ready and employment-ready graduates.

“No two trainers are exactly alike. But in TESDA’s competency-based training, one thing should always be the same: the standard. That means our interpretation, assessment, and judgment should be fair, consistent, and aligned so that wherever the trainees come from, they’re job-ready and industry fit,” Villagracia said.

Villagracia also explained that TESDA’s trainers and assessors are its “frontliners in transforming lives through skills and education.”

“So each of you holds a national TVET trainer’s certificate, a symbol not just of your qualification but of your commitment to quality, integrity, and impact. You are the bridge between the TESDA mission and the dreams of every learner who walks into a training room,” he added.

Together with Utzurrum at the event were Delma P. Manila, NOATI vice president, and the rest of its officers.
