SU unveils new Outstanding Sillimanian Awards Wall

Silliman University unveiled its new Outstanding Sillimanian Awards (OSA) Wall during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 27, 2026, as part of the University’s 125th Founders Day celebration.

Designed by Nhoelyn H. Girasol, Alyssa Joanna A. Peligro, Andrei Juliana Versario, and Engr. Oliver Sobere Yu, the wall serves as a permanent memorial to Sillimanians who have distinguished themselves through their achievements, service, and contributions to society.

Engr. Elizabeth L. Engle, project manager and Trustee representing Alumni Overseas of the Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI), described the completion of the wall as one of the most rewarding moments of the project management process.

Engle highlighted the project’s budget, schedule, and safety as fundamental measures of success, while emphasizing that its greater measure lies in the purpose it serves and the people it touches.

“This is not really a construction project. It is a memorial to excellence, a celebration of service, and a lasting tribute to the Sillimanians who have distinguished themselves through their achievements and contributions to society,” Engle said.

She also acknowledged the collective effort behind the project, noting that its completion was made possible through the contributions of people who shared their time, resources, expertise, and support.

Immediate past SAAI president Adlai Amor emphasized the significance of giving the OSA honorees a permanent, accessible place on campus.

The wall was envisioned after the former display at the Villareal Hall lobby could no longer accommodate the growing number of Outstanding Sillimanians, which has reached 268 honorees since the tradition began in 1962.

Amor said the wall allows students, families, alumni, and visitors to encounter the names and stories of Outstanding Sillimanians and discover the values that define excellence, service, and servant leadership.

“These names here may be just names on the wall, but these are actually— they represent the people behind us. And they tell stories dating back to 1962,” Amor said.

The wall’s design incorporates salmon-colored marble and white Italian marble, with approximately 280 engraved plates bearing the names of Outstanding Sillimanians.

Amor also acknowledged the workers, engineers, university personnel, donors, and alumni who contributed to the project.

The project was funded largely through SAAI savings, supplemented by unsolicited donations. Plans are also underway for additional features, including stainless steel silhouettes of significant University buildings and landscaping around the wall.

The OSA Wall now stands as a permanent campus landmark honoring Sillimanians whose lives embody the University’s tradition of excellence and service.
