
SU welcomes 5th Hanseatic League of Universities Conference participants at Luce
Silliman University (SU), alongside St. Paul University – Dumaguete (SPUD), and Siqujor State College (SSC), co-hosted the 5th Annual Conference of the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU), with Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) as its main host, on July 9-11, 2025, at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
Led by NORSU President and HLU President-Elect Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, the international gathering of educators, researchers, and leaders explored the theme “Breaking Barriers, Empowering Change”—highlighting how universities can drive regional development, global cooperation, and sustainable innovation.
Plenary speakers Dr. Carl E. Balita, Dr. Dina S. Ocampo, and CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis joined thought leaders like Dr. Dong Sung Cho and Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag in challenging participants to embrace transformative, inclusive, and future-forward education. Breakout sessions were held across host institutions, including SU’s sessions on “Entrepreneurial Spirit” facilitated by Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center (GSC) director, on July 9 and “Empowerment Based Management” facilitated by Asst. Prof. Janice Antoniette V. Forster, Technology Business Incubator (TBI) manager, on July 10.
