SUCN hosts ear acupuncture detoxification training, community clinic

The Silliman University College of Nursing (SUCN), in collaboration with NADA Philippines, conducted a five-day Ear Acupuncture Detoxification Training from May 19 to 23, 2026, equipping participants with skills in complementary care and community-based wellness interventions.
Held at the Mary Marquis Smith (MMS) Building 101 for the didactic sessions and at the Lo-oc Covered Court in Barangay Lo-oc, Dumaguete City for the community clinic, the training focused on the NADA Protocol, a standardized five-point ear acupuncture method used to support individuals dealing with physical, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The training was facilitated by NADA Philippines Board President Dr. Romeo P. Balderrama Jr., together with Raymundo Reyes, Magin L. Ardeña Jr., Kristin Faith O. Cataylo, and Evelyn B. Dulay. SUCN faculty members Asst. Prof. Rowena M. Turtal, Asst. Prof. Mary Nathalie M. Cata-al, Asst. Prof. Rochie C. Cagara, and Precious Cherry Lynn D. Siglos also served as practicum mentors.

Participants included healthcare practitioners, SUCN faculty and alumni, and nursing student representatives. Among those who joined the training were Dr. Marnesa P. Campoy, Dorothy M. Real, Daniel T. Cazon, and Roselle Marie T. Tayo.
The program aimed to train more Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental and strengthen community access to complementary healthcare interventions. According to the organizers, the initiative supports NADA Philippines’ mission of providing accessible care for individuals and communities experiencing physical and mental health concerns.
The five-day training included lectures, demonstrations of the five-point ear acupuncture procedure, supervised practicum sessions, and a three-day community clinic conducted in Barangay Lo-oc. Residents and invited guests from nearby communities availed themselves of the free treatments during the outreach component of the program.

Organizers noted that many patients who underwent treatment reported feeling “relaxed and sleepy after the treatment,” reflecting positive initial responses to the intervention.
The training concluded with a commencement program and renewed plans to continue the partnership between SUCN and NADA Philippines in training more specialists who can assist post-trauma survivors, individuals recovering from substance abuse, and persons facing mental health challenges.
