SUMS class 2009 donates walls to honor alumni, deans

Silliman University Medical School (SUMS) celebrated its 15th founding anniversary by gathering the first doctors it produced in their annual Kita-ay alumni homecoming and launch of the SUMS Alumni Wall and Hall of Deans, last Aug. 23 at the SUMS building.

SUMS launched the Alumni Wall donated by the Class of 2009, whose names are the first to be put up on the wall.

To celebrate the 10th year since their graduation last 2009 and being the first batch to put SUMS on the list of medical schools in the Physician Licensure Examination, alumni Dr. Julie Vida Cabristante, Dr. Tanya Ramas Uypitching-Reyes, and Dr. Georgitha Partosa-Sasing attended the gathering and launch of the SUMS Alumni Wall and Hall of Deans, which were donated by the SUMS Class of 2009.

Names of SUMS graduates per batch, engraved on golden plaques, will be displayed on the Alumni Wall, which is located in the hallway of the SUMS building’s first floor.

Meanwhile, photos of SUMS deans will be on the Hall of Deans, located inside the SUMS faculty room.

Each of the alumni talked about their experiences as a medical student at SUMS. Their achievements over the years were also recognized by SUMS.

The class of 2009, SUMS’ first batch of graduates, were the school’s first enrollees when it opened in June 2005: Dr. Marikit Bituin Baquiran-Parker, Dr. Julie Vida Cabristante, Dr. Kristine Espancho, Dr. Yu Jeong Go, Dr. Georgitha Partosa-Sasing, Dr. Tanya Ramas Uypitching-Reyes, Dr. Philmed Salindo, Dr. Sheena Marie Saycon-Villar, and Dr. Pearl Vidal-Buella.

Dr. Ursos delivered a welcome address to SUMS alumni, students, faculty and staff who attended the alumni homecoming celebration.

With the theme “Pista sa Nayon: Kita-ay sa SUMS 2019,” the celebration started with a welcome address by Dr. Walden R. Ursos, SUMS dean, followed by the speech of Dr. Jonathan C. Amante, 2019 Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee and SUMS founding dean.
