Library Donates 156 Volumes to Manjuyod Public School

The Robert B. and Metta J. Silliman Library donated a total of 156 volumes of books to a public elementary school in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.

University Librarian Mrs. Lorna T. Yso facilitated the donation of children's books and teachers' references to Locay Elementary School in Barangay Bagtic. Earlier, the school's Head Teacher wrote Silliman University President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III expressing the need for library resources.

As part of its extension program, the Library has been donating books to public schools around the province, including those badly hit by the typhoon in December 2011 and the earthquake in February 2012. It also maintains formal knowledge development partnerships which cover free book rentals and extension of library resources to public schools.

Silliman has a collection of over 100,000 volumes of books on various subjects, on top of its subscription to local and foreign online journals. It was named Outstanding Academic Library by the Philippine Association of Academic Librarians, joining the ranks of the libraries of the Asian Development Bank and the International Rice Research Institute.
