CMC “Balik-Talent” to feature 3 eminent communication and PR experts Aug. 24

The Silliman University College of Mass Communication (CMC) will sponsor “Balik-Talent” lectures by its eminent former director, an illustrious alumnus, and a public relations guru, as a highlight of Founders Day 2018 celebration.

Dr. Crispin Maslog, former director and professor of CMC, will speak on the topic, “A Mission for All Seasons: Defending Democracy and Decency,” on Friday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Audio Visual Theater.

Maslog earned his Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Minnesota and was the first director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Silliman up to 1982. He moved to UP Los Baños as professor at the College of Development Communication and later to the Asian Institute of Journalism in Manila as Senior Vice President and Dean of Graduate School. He has written more than 30 books on journalism and other topics.

 

 

 

 

 

Adlai Amor, SU bachelor of journalism 1977, magna cum laude, and Columbia University – New York City MA in Journalism, will speak on the topic, “From Typewriters to iphones: Coping with the Communication Revolution,” on Friday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m., also at the AVT.

Amor , 1994 Outstanding Sillimanian, built his career in the Philippines and later in the United States as a journalist and as an advocate for the environment, heading communication departments of prestigious institutions such as Greenpeace, World Resources Institute, and Bread for the World. He now works as the Associate Executive Secretary for Communications, Friends Committee on National Legislation (www.fcnl.org).

 

 

 

 

 

Completing the powerful trio is Carlos “Charlie” Agatep, a major player in Philippine advertising and public relations. His company, Agatep Associates, Inc. that later evolved into the Grupo Agatep conglomerate with European partners, won a total of 145 Anvil Awards, no less than 60 of them gold, 3 platinums, and 3 Grand Anvils. The Anvil Awards is the most prestigious award in the industry.

Agatep will speak on the topic, “PR and Fake News,” on Friday, August 24, immediately after the lecture of Maslog at 2 p.m. also at the AVT. – Celia E. Acedo
