Alumni Letter January 2014

Alumni Letter January 2014

Dear Fellow Sillimanians and Friends:

January came with the Siberian cold winds blowing in which gave everyone the chance to pull out their sweaters and jackets. It was a great respite from a warm December. The Siberian winds have slowed down but we still have cooler evenings.

The University Christian Life Emphasis Month (UCLEM) kicked off last January 26, 2014 during the 9:30am service at the Silliman University Church. This year’s UCLEM theme: “Act Justly, Always Do What is Right” is taken from the book of Psalm 106:3: “Happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.”(NRSV)

The message is a faith-affirmation that blessings do come to those who do and uphold just deeds, and those who consistently carry out acts of righteousness. To do what is just and to act righteously is the key to a life of blessedness. (UCLEM Study Guide)

A whole month of activities is lined up, with the Galilean Fellowship as one of the major highlights. A Worship Service with Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee in Environmental Journalism, Mr. Adlai J. Amor, as guest speaker on February 23, 2014, 9:30am at SU Church will culminate the month-long UCLEM celebration.

ImageHollywood Designer and SUHS 1982 Alumnus, Alexis Monsanto recently presented his 2014 Spring Collection. Five Diamond Entertainment & Productions presented Monsanto’s 2014 Collection for “The World for Children” Fashion Show at The Center at Twenty-Three Hundred, Sierra Boulevard, Sacramento, California, USA. The beneficiaries of this event are the research for quality care programs of children at Shriners Hospital.

Monsanto’s designs are savored for their exquisite tailoring and precision cuts that flatter a woman’s body and accentuate the natural curves and shapes of a woman’s silhouette. His treatment of fabrics as his canvas is transformed into glamorous evening gowns and two-piece ensembles that are classic, yet suited for the woman with fashion-forward sensibility.
