High Shool Debate Team Visayas’ Champion Anew
The team from the High School Department was adjudged champion in the high school category of the 7th Visayas Universities Debate Championship hosted February 14 to 17 by University of the Philippines Visayas-Iloilo
Senior student Patrich Lozano and Junior students Jude Martin Amiscaray and Gian Carlo Sanglay won in the championship round against a team from PAREF Springdale School of Boys of Cebu City. Silliman took the government (affirmative) side on the motion “This house believes that governments should aggressively pursue income equality policies even at the cost of economic growth.”
Lozano was named the Finals Best Speaker. He also figured on the list of Top 10 debaters of the tournament, along with Amiscaray.
This marks the second year in a row that Silliman was overall champion in the high school category of the VUDC. The teams had to go through five elimination rounds, debating against both high school and college debaters, before advancing into an exclusively high school finals series
