12 Scholars Conclude Creativity Camp Training at Mariano Lao Innovation Lab
Twelve high school and college students will complete a month-long specialized training at the Mariano Lao Innovation, Creation and Invention Laboratory (MLICIL) in Silliman University.
Dubbed Creativity Camp, the training program culminating on March 24 aims to stimulate innovative ideas with an entrepreneurial value among the student participants. It utilizes a hybrid approach that combines face-to-face lessons during Saturdays and online collaboration via the Silliman Online University Learning during the project proposal writing phase.
Participants are expected to present a project proposal in May for funding under the Research and Capstone Project Grant of MLICIL.
“This year’s camp is one of the many activities that we prepared to promote innovation and creativity culture in the University,” said Dr. Dave E. Marcial, MLICIL Project Leader and concurrent Dean of the College of Computer Studies. “We hope to offer this camp annually, and we are all excited to have more applicants in the future from other schools.”
The Camp operates on a scholarship under the MLICIL and is open to junior and senior high school and college students in Negros Oriental. This year’s recipients are:

Innovation and Incubation Coordinator and Silliman IT Department Chairperson Asst. Prof. Janice Antoniette V. Forster said that “the camp intends to jump start the community’s awareness of a high-end incubation laboratory as well as to establish its visibility and active involvement with technopreneurship programs in the province.”
The Camp lined up a training core composed of experts: Suzanne Antoniette L. Bascara (Site Director for SPICRM’s Dumaguete Operations), Jonas Curativo (Chief Executive Officer of Miller Solutions Development Inc., Dumaguete City), Marvin Luther Tan (Application Architect/Development Lead, Accenture Washington, USA), Muhammad Syarief Asbir (Founder, PLXR Media Inc., Dumaguete City), Harvey Anthony Dalmacio (General Manager of Ingenuiti, Dumaguete City), Randolf T. Bandiola (IT Consultant & Owner/Proprietor of Algorithm Computer Services, Dumaguete City), and Edward Du (President of Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce). It also pooled trainers from Sillimna: Dr. Jaruvic Rafols (Head, Guidance and Testing Division), Asst. Prof. Forster (IT Department Chairperson/Incubation and Innovation Coordinator), Ms. Joy M. Dy (IT Faculty/IT Internship Coordinator), Asst. Prof. Jonathan Mark N. Te (IS Faculty/Technopreneurship Teacher), and Dr. Marcial.
