High School Grad Joins Steinway Piano Competition
A graduate of the High School Department represented Silliman University in the 2nd Steinway Youth Piano Competition held late last month in Manila.
Alexis Faye B. Pal is the first from Silliman to have qualified for the competition open to ages 11 to 17 years old. Her repertoire was composed of three pieces: Sonata No. 5 in G Major K283 Allegro by W.A. Mozart, Aufschwung (Soaring) by Schumann and Partita V. Praeambulum by J.S. Bach.

Pal was taking up piano lessons at the College of Performing and Visual Arts under Dean Dr. Elizabeth Susan Vista Suarez when she was approached to represent Silliman.
The competition was part the biennial international festival organized by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany, to identify, encourage and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their careers. Various countries concurrently ran national-level auditions to determine their representatives for the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg.
Steinway Gallery Singapore organizes the regional finals for Asia Pacific with winners from nine countries. Representing the Philippines in the regional finals in Singapore is a young pianist based in Manila.
