Weekly School Paper Adjudged Best Semi-Broadsheet
The University’s official student publication, the Weekly Sillimanian (tWS), was awarded Best Semi-Broadsheet during the 11th Organization of Student Services, Educators, Inc. (OSSEI) Seminar and Workshop on Campus Journalism held in Baguio City on September 18 to 20.
TWS editor-in-chief Stephanie Colinco (Psychology III; first from right in photo) and associate editor Andrea Lim (Mass Communication III; second from left) received the award, along with their adviser, Prof. Warlito Caturay Jr. of the English and Literature Department.
There were 20 colleges and universities that were represented at the OSSEI seminar and workshop which brought in distinguishes speakers, among them practicing journalists and journalism professors. The seminar also featured a competition in two categories: broadsheet and semi-broadsheet. Silliman’s student publication won the competition in the semi-broadsheet category, and stood out for its layout, quality writing, and its being the only weekly publication in the seminar.
Silliman takes pride on having what used to be one of only two weekly student publications in the Philippines. Its student publication is the country’s oldest, being in circulation for 111 years already.
