United States-based Philippine fashion designer and Silliman alumnus Alexis Monsanto (HS ’82) will headline the Opening Night Gala of Fashion Houston 5 on November 18 to 21, 2014 at the Wortham Center, Houston, TX. Monsanto is extending an invitation to the gala to Sillimanians in Houston and neighboring areas. A “meet and greet” takes place after the show at the VIP After Party or during the day at the designers salon of Saks Fifth Ave on November 18, and at Neiman Marcus on November 19. Dr. Dely Po-Go, an Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee in the field of Entrepreneurship in Nursing in 2013 is one of only nine nurses recognized on November 7, 2014 for excellence in their respective professions by the New Jersey League for Nursing at the Pines Manor, Edison, New Jersey. Dr. Go is CEO of AVTECH Institute and Allied Health, a company that produces Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and, eventually, Registered Nurses (RN).
The Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. is hosting a Summit of all Silliman Alumni Chapter Presidents or their duly authorized delegates on December 6, 2014 at Silliman University, Dumaguete City. Dr. Ben S. Malayang III will discuss the University’s plans relative to the K+12 education reform and the ASEAN 2015 market integration.
The Silliman University Alumni Association of the National Capital Region (Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia) hosted a dinner fellowship on October 9, 2014 in Springfield, Virginia for visiting Sillimanians: Mrs. Gladys R. Malayang, wife of Silliman President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III, and Mark Raygan E. Garcia, Director of the Office of Information and Publications. Garcia was in Washington, DC as a fellow to the 2014 World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings. Present were alumni chapter president Danny Luzada, Adlai Amor, Bayani Pioquinto, Honeylet Tuanda, Ruella Esmele, Merlyn Hepzibah, Edith Sun Martin, Glenda Pil, Jeremiah Tagle, Audrey Claire Cabio-Tuballa, Grace Montesino Esnardo, Von Cathlene Panot Iyengar, Fideleta Lim, Neil Solis and Gemma Solis.
Some members and officers of the Silliman University Alumni Association New York-New Jersey Chapter gathered for breakfast on October 11, 2014 to hear some updates about Silliman University from Mark Raygan E. Garcia, Director of the Office of Information and Publications. Garcia visited New York from Washington, DC where he attended the World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings as one of 61 funded fellows (and the only one from the Philippines) from around the world. Present were chapter president Dr. Felella Kiamco-Millman, Member of the Silliman University Board of Trustees Dr. Sylvester Almiron (representing the Silliman University Alumni Council of North America), Elizabeth Lasmarias-Santos, Delaware-based Harold Vidal, Doreen Camino-Scott, Dr. Evangeline Bravo-Manjares, Emma Cruzado-Gornez, Crisilia Sinoag-Pascal, Nancy Enojo-Endozo, Sevelita Cortes-Orendain, Dr. Dely Po-Go, Harry Go, Josephine Palopo-Cagara and Miguel Braganza.
