Economics Majors Advance to National Debate Championship

Two Economics majors won the championship of the Junior Philippine Economics Society’s Inter-University Debate held in Cebu on January 10.

Sophomore Genin Raya Amiscaray and freshman Dale Casocot went up against two teams from the University of San Carlos and a team from the University of St. La Salle in the debate patterned after the British parliamentary format.

They argued on the motion “This house prefers bailout packages without conditions,” presenting a solid case against government’s extending assistance to industries or businesses that are in economic crisis, in order to mitigate larger scale implications.

Amiscaray and Casocot advance to the national debate rounds set February 7.
