CELTA’s ‘Storyahi’ Project Echoes UN Disability Campaign
The Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (CELTA) of the College of Education joins a global campaign aimed at raising awareness on disability and related issues among teachers and students.
This movement, dubbed #DrawDisability, was launched by the United Nations in December 2014 through the Global Education First Initiative (GEFI). Its launch coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It partners with the Global Observatory for Inclusion (GLOBI) and UN GEFI’s Youth Advocacy Group.
Listed among the campaign’s international strategic partners is one of CELTA’s educational outreach projects, Storyahi.
Storyahi is portmanteau word formed from the English word “story” and the Cebuano word “istoryahi” – meaning to talk, tell or relate. It is a literacy caravan that targets public schools and underserved communities in Negros Oriental throughout the month of March.
Two of the primary projects of Storyahi is storytelling of an original work written in the local dialect by Education majors in the University and an art-making activity that emphasizes the value of upcycling.
