'SU' in Virginia Meets 'SU' in Dumaguete

Thirteen officials and students from a university in Winchester, Virginia, which has the same acronym as Silliman University (SU) and an almost-similar website address, were on campus from March 9 to 11 for their Global Citizenship Program.

The delegation from Shenandoah University was led by Trustee Ms Mary Bruce Glaize and Vice President for Student Life Dr. Rhonda Van Dyke Colby. Their participation in this first visit of Shenandoah to Silliman opened opportunities of partnership between the two universities in the areas of research, service-learning, and faith integration in the academic curriculum.

A Silliman alumna, Danielle Elise Zamar, who is currently pursuing her graduate program in music therapy at Shenandoah, was invited to serve as team leader of the participants. 

Shenandoah brought in nine students students and a faculty: Liam Gallagher, Julia Falkenklous, Jessica Marie James, Morgan Kuhns, Manny Vasquez, Adriana Myers, Mary Lin, Eric Williams and Kriti Hada, and Dr. Fritz Polite, a faculty from the School of Business Administration.

Shenandoah's Global Citizenship Program is open to students, faculty and alumni. 

Their exposure to the Filipino way of life is expected to develop within them a fuller understanding of local culture, social issues on the ground, and people and communities outside their own environment.
