VPAA Re-elected President of Accrediting Agency for Private Universities
Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Betsy Joy B. Tan has been re-elected as president of the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities-Accrediting Agency, Inc. (ACSCU-AAI) during the agency’s 30th National Assembly held May 21 to 22 in Tagaytay City.
ACSCU-AAI is one of only three accrediting agencies for private education institutions in the Philippines recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). It holds the critical function of assessing and updating the quality of higher education, based on a stringent set of standards that involves both internal review and an independent external evaluation of its member institutions.
The term of Dr. Tan is for another year, ending in 2016.
Under the leadership of Dr. Tan as VPAA, Silliman achieved the highest number of accredited programs in the Philippines. The University also earned the highest status of Level IV (Institutional Accreditation) from the Federation of Accrediting Association of the Philippines (FAAP).
FAAP is the umbrella agency under which ACSCU-AAI and the two other accrediting agencies (Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities’ Commission on Accreditation) for private educational institutions operate. It is FAAP that holds the mandate from CHED to certify accreditation status granted by the three accrediting agencies.
